International School of Cultural Heritage 36 TANZANIA Lucy Herbert Mlangwa Ms. Lucy Herbert Mlangwa, is a cultural officer at African Liberation Heritage Center in Tanzania, with a strong background in preserving, promoting and managing cultural and historical assets. She has experience in developing and implementing heritage conservation strategies and organizing education programs that enable local communities to celebrate their cultural diversity. Her work includes organizing cultural events, exhibition and workshops, identifying, documenting and preserving both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, monitoring the condition of cultural artifacts and records, maintaining archives and photographic records of liberation heritage materials. She is also contributing to cultural policy development at the national level, digitizing heritage resources and preparing reports, publications and interpretive materials for public use. Also, she assists with grant writing and funding applications for cultural initiatives. Her skills include conducting research, preparing heritage assessments and engaging local communities, government Agencies and cultural organizations in heritage preservation processes. She is highly committed in safeguarding both Intangible and tangible heritage assets for present and future generations, and has a strong knowledge and experience in managing cultural collections from all historical periods ranging from ancient to modern. She works with historic collections consisting in 20thcentury historical objects linked to African liberation movements. Items range from metal, wood, and plastic materials, such as WWII first aid kits, a 2.5m x 1.2m motorcycle, old telephones, televisions, typewriters, and wooden chairs.Chronologically, the collection spans from the 1930s–1990s and geographically covers liberation movements across Southern and Eastern Africa.
